In applying for cruise ship work it is vital that you know what those make the decision are searching for, it takes a bit of forward planning. Together with care in putting your application together, will reap rewards later when you get the acceptance letter through the post, a bit of homework now.
You can increase your chances of that happening for you, here are ten tips on how.
1. Write down all the jobs you have previously had, and also a list of as many qualifications you have gained as possible, before even seeking a specific job. That includes school, college, university, work training and any other courses you may have attended. Also note down all the skills you believe you have gained, through education, training or employment experience.
2. Look at your list, and being completely honest with yourself regarding which are your strongest and which your weakness, write these skills down again, with your strongest first and weakest last. Don’t BS because you will soon be found out.
3. Now check the vacancies available on cruise ships, you can use up a search engine such as Google. Most cruise lines will advertise their vacancies online with the major job websites.
4. Being totally honest with yourself, try to match the vacancies with your qualifications, skills and experience. If you have never worked behind a bar don’t apply for a barman’s position, and the same for a croupier job. Consider only positions you can step into without needing further training. There is nothing wrong with aspirations and ambitions; you can aim for something better than you may have had before. For example, if you have worked behind a bar, then apply for a head barman position if it is available.
